Climate Resilience and Adaptation
At Sustainable Solutions Kenya (SUSOK), we recognize that climate change is not a distant threat—it is a present and growing challenge that disproportionately affects vulnerable communities across Kenya. Our Climate Resilience and Adaptation program is designed to help local populations anticipate, prepare for, and respond to the impacts of climate variability and long-term environmental shifts.

Our Approach
SUSOK works at the intersection of local knowledge and innovative technologies to build the capacity of communities to adapt to climate change. Our approach emphasizes:

Community-Led Solutions: We empower communities to take the lead in identifying climate risks and developing sustainable, culturally relevant adaptation

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is fundamental to human dignity, health, and development. At Sustainable Solutions Kenya (SUSOK), our WASH program is committed to closing the gap for underserved communities across Kenya, particularly in rural and informal settlements where basic services remain out of reach.

Our Vision
We envision a Kenya where every household, school, and health facility has reliable access to clean water, dignified sanitation, and hygiene practices that support health and resilience.

What We Do
Safe Water Access: We develop sustainable water infrastructure including boreholes, protected springs, rainwater harvesting systems, and solar-powered pumps to ensure year-round access to clean water.

Sanitation Solutions: We support the construction and rehabilitation of latrines, promote ecological sanitation models, and work with communities to end open defecation through Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS).

Hygiene Promotion: We drive behavior change through hygiene education, handwashing campaigns, and distribution of handwashing stations and hygiene kits in schools, markets, and health centers.

WASH in Schools and Health Facilities: We prioritize WASH services in public institutions to reduce waterborne diseases, improve school attendance (especially for girls), and enhance healthcare delivery.

Climate-Resilient WASH: In response to growing climate challenges, we integrate water conservation and drought resilience into our WASH designs to ensure long-term sustainability.

Impact Highlights

  1. Thousands of households connected to clean and safe water sources.
  2. Improved sanitation facilities in dozens of schools and community centers.
  3. Reduction in waterborne disease cases through integrated hygiene promotion.
  4. Empowerment of women and youth as key WASH champions in their communities.

Why WASH Matters
WASH is not just a health issue—it is deeply linked to education, gender equality, economic development, and climate resilience. When communities have access to clean water and sanitation, they are healthier, more productive, and better prepared to face future shocks.
